About This Opportunity
Working within a collaborative team comprised of lawyers, paralegals and human resource professionals, the Legal Counsel, Labour & Employment, is a subject matter expert within the organization on labour, employment and litigation matters. The incumbent will work closely with the company’s labour relations and human resource teams, manage outside counsel and independently carry grievance arbitration, employment litigation and human rights files representing Coke Canada Bottling across the country. The Legal Counsel, Labour and Employment, advises on a wide array of labour and employment issues including but not limited to human rights, occupational health and safety, internal investigations, labour relations, collective agreements and grievances.

About This Opportunity

Job Responsibilities
- Providing legal advice and counsel to advance Coke Canada Bottling’s vision to become the world’s greatest bottling company built by the best people.
- Advising and providing counsel on a broad range of legal matters related to employment law, including accommodation, human rights complaints, short- and long-term disability leaves and benefits, wrongful dismissals, terminations, organizational restructurings and changes, and corporate policies.
- Leading and providing advice on labour relations and matters related to labour law, including collective bargaining agreements and grievances.
- Independently carrying labour and employment files with minimal supervision, including appearances at various levels of court, administrative tribunals and boards, and arbitration proceedings.
- Conducting complex workplace investigations.
- Managing general litigation files and assisting with commercial matters, as needed.
Qualifications
- Law Degree and member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or Le Barreau du Quebec.
- 3-5 years’ experience practicing labour and employment law and litigation at a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
- Strong command of Canadian labour and employment laws, regulations and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience independently carrying labour and employment litigation files with minimal supervision, including appearances at various levels of court, administrative tribunals and boards, and arbitration proceedings.
- Experience dealing with a wide range of labour and employment matters, including, but not limited to wrongful dismissal, human rights and occupational health and safety.
- Experience leading and conducting complex workplace investigations.
- Experience with a large company with locations in multiple provinces is an asset, although not a requirement.
- Ability to work in French is an asset, although not a requirement.
