As a Content Lawyer you will be responsible for the recruitment of editors and or creating content in the area of Civil Law in Canada. You will work with the practices areas of Corporate, Commercial, Litigation, Employment, In-House. This position is a hybrid/remote full-time role working with a team of experienced professionals responsible for the development and strategic direction of Practical Guidance, an innovative online resource designed specifically for Canadian lawyers.
Responsibilities:
- Building relationships with respected legal practitioners and firms across Canada with a focus on Quebec to create content that reflects leading legal and business practices;
- Reviewing, editing and/or writing practice notes, checklists, flowcharts, precedents and other practice-related materials;
- Ensuring currency and relevancy of materials included in the product;
- Monitoring information sources to identify and report on relevant news and updates regarding legal developments;
- Working within a cross-functional team to execute on the content and product development strategies, and ensure the delivery of high-quality content within mandated timelines;
- Contributing knowledge of the needs of legal practitioners to assist in the development of effective sales and marketing strategies and initiatives relating to the Quebec market; and Maintaining and managing relationships with key LexisNexis stakeholders within Canada, the US and UK.
Requirements:
- Bilingual (french and english);
- A Quebec civil law degree and/or member of the Barreau du Québec.
- Applicants with a law degree from another jurisdiction with relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience as a lawyer (minimum of 2 years, preferably 5+), in one or more of the following practice areas:
- Corporate, Commercial, Litigation, Employment, In-House;
- Superior legal research and practical writing skills and comfortable with author management;
- Detailed understanding of the legal practice needs and workflow requirements within the identified practice areas and a sophisticated knowledge of trends in the Canadian legal marketplace;
- Strong network of contacts currently in legal practice in Canada within the identified practice areas;
- Strong, practical writer with the ability to write effectively and concisely within prescribed timelines;
- Experience in drafting or editing client materials, law journals, CLE presentations or other legal writing;
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills; Proficient with MS Office products;
- Must be highly organized, self-motivated and detail-oriented; and Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

We have a position to fill immediately within our Content team for a recently practising lawyer (minimum of 2 years, preferably 5 years or more), in one or more of the following practice areas: corporate law, commercial law, litigation, employment, in-house counsel's law.
The successful candidate for this full-time/hybrid remote position will join a team of experienced professionals responsible for the development and strategic direction of Practical Guidance, an innovative online resource designed specifically for Canadian lawyers.
Reporting to the Manager, Litigation Practice Areas at Practical Guidance, the position will include the following key responsibilities:
- Build relationships with respected law practitioners and firms across Canada, with a focus on Quebec, to create content that reflects leading legal and business practices;
- Review, revise and/or draft practice notes, checklists, flowcharts, templates and other practice-related documents;
- Ensure the timeliness and relevance of the documents included in the product;
- Monitor information sources to identify and report relevant news and updates regarding legal developments;
- Work as part of a cross-functional team to ensure the execution of content and product development strategies, and the delivery of high-quality content within the prescribed deadlines;
- Contribute to the identification of the needs of legal practitioners to assist in the development of effective sales and marketing strategies and initiatives relating to the Quebec market; and
- Maintain and manage relationships with key LexisNexis stakeholders in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
This position can be mostly or fully remote. Our Canadian headquarters are located in Toronto, Ontario, and we have an office in Montreal, Quebec. However, this position may be based in another province.
Job Requirements:
- Bilingualism (French and English);
- Graduate in civil law of Quebec and/or member of the Quebec Bar. Applicants with a law degree from another jurisdiction with relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience as a lawyer (minimum of 2 years, preferably 5 years or more), in one or more of the following practice areas: corporate law, commercial law, litigation, employment, in-house counsel law.
- Superior legal research and writing skills that are practical and comfortable with author management;
- Detailed understanding of legal practice needs and work process requirements in the identified practice areas and in-depth knowledge of Canadian legal market trends;

Sous la supervision de la Gestionnaire, Contenu secondaire – Québec, la personne choisie accomplira les tâches suivantes :
- Assurer la coordination des collections et ouvrages qui lui sont attitrés, disponibles en ligne et en format imprimé;
- Effectuer le suivi des auteurs afin d’obtenir la remise des manuscrits et des mises à jour selon les échéanciers fixés;
- Procéder au recrutement de nouveaux auteurs et au remplacement d’auteurs qui se sont désistés;
- Réviser et corriger les manuscrits de langue française, ainsi que les mises à jour proposées par les auteurs;
- Participer au développement, à la révision et à l’édition des nouvelles publications, dans des domaines de droit désignés;
- Évaluer la viabilité financière des nouveaux projets de publications pour déterminer s’ils doivent être poursuivis;
- Établir et maintenir de bonnes relations avec la communauté juridique, y compris les praticiens, les universitaires, les membres de la magistrature, les bibliothécaires et d'autres clients externes;
- Travailler avec les équipes Marketing et Ventes pour développer des stratégies de mise en marché pour les publications attitrées;
- Assister l’équipe dans des projets divers de traduction;
- Agir à titre de personne-ressource auprès des auteurs et des membres de nos différentes équipes pour les ouvrages attitrés.
PROFIL RECHERCHÉ :
- Excellente maîtrise de la langue française;
- Excellente maîtrise de la langue anglaise;
- Membre du Barreau du Québec ou de la Chambre des notaires du Québec. Les candidats détenant un baccalauréat en droit et une expérience pertinente seront considérés;
- Au moins un an d’expérience en pratique du droit ou à titre de stagiaire en droit ou dans le domaine de l’édition juridique;
- Aptitudes organisationnelles et grand souci du détail;
- Capacité à gérer plusieurs projets et à respecter les délais de publication de nos produits imprimés et en ligne;
- Habiletés à développer des relations privilégiées avec nos collaborateurs et à travailler sur des projets impliquant plusieurs équipes;
- Excellentes compétences en communication (orale et écrite) et en négociation;
- Connaissance d’Adobe Acrobat et de la suite Microsoft Office.

LexisNexis Canada is seeking to hire a Legal Editor.
Reporting to the Manager, Quebec Secondary Content, the position will include the following key responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of designated publications, available both online and in print;
- Collaborate and follow-up with authors to ensure timely delivery of manuscript and updates according to our publishing schedule;
- Recruit new authors and proceed to author replacement for publications within your portfolio;
- Review and edit French-language manuscripts, as well as updates proposed by authors;
- Develop, review and edit new publications within your designated practice areas;
- Assess financial viability of new content proposals to determine whether they should be pursued;
- Build and maintain good public relations with the legal community, including practitioners, academics, members of the judiciary, librarians, market research contacts, and other external customers;
- Work with Marketing and Sales departments to build “go-to-market” strategies;
- Assist the team with various translation projects;
- Act as a resource person for authors and various internal departments for publications within your portfolio.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
- Excellent French language skills (oral and written);
- Excellent English language skills (oral and written);
- Member of the Barreau du Québec or the Chambre des notaires du Québec. Candidates with a law degree and relevant experience will be considered;
- At least 1 year’s practice/articling or legal publishing experience;
- Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail;
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines for print and online;
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of cross-departmental project teams;
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and negotiation skills;
- Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office suit.
