JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director General of Representation, the incumbent designs, manages and implements high-impact initiatives aligned with the ABC's strategic priorities while liaising with government officials, parliamentary staff, internal stakeholders and ABC members.
The incumbent will require strong project management and communication skills, policy knowledge, and a collaborative approach to leading initiatives within teams and committees. This individual will coordinate cross-functionally with CBA and divisional staff on CBA responses to these initiatives.

$72.23/hour
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor, identify and evaluate trends and issues in the legal profession and related professions.
- Develop, manage, coordinate and support Representation department projects and initiatives; study substantive issues related to the mandates of the Board's committees, subcommittees and working groups, as required.
- Monitor federal government legislative and law reform initiatives.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with federal officials and parliamentary staff and with other relevant organizations;
- Advise ABC sections, subcommittees and working groups on their respective legislative and policy initiatives, and develop government relations plans.
- Coordinate the CBA's responses to federal government initiatives, write and review briefs, provide advice on potential policy implications for the CBA, and brief CBA members on government relations and presentations to parliamentary committees.
- Monitor dissertation results and provide advice on follow-up.
- Advise Communications staff on how to present law reform and diversity initiatives to the media.
- Participate in meetings and represent the ABC in substantive consultations.
- Respond promptly to requests from ABC members, the media and the public.
- Liaise with Board subcommittees and working groups as required.
- Prepare information materials and communications for members of the ABC Board and committees.
- Participate in meetings of the Association's sections, committees, subcommittees and working groups, as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALITIES
Education
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B. or B.DC) or Juris Doctor (JD) from a recognized university and membership in the bar of a province or territory in Canada.
Experience
- Project management experience, preferably in a law firm or professional volunteer association.
- Experience in research and policy analysis and ability to analyze complex legal issues.
- Five years since admission to the bar.
Skills, knowledge and abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, in both official languages.
- Knowledge of the legal firm or litigation services environment, in the private, public or voluntary sector.
- Knowledge of federal government law and policy development processes.
- Knowledge of the processes of the Parliament of Canada.
- Ability to work in a team and reconcile different personalities.
- Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to complete tasks in a fast-paced environment under time constraints.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy.
- Availability to attend weekend meetings and travel.
